Agree the handoff before booking the journey
Start with Sage’s Delivery & Pickup information and confirm the option available for your situation. Ask for the actual date, meeting place, responsible people, travel costs and contingency plan in writing. Identify who keeps the puppy’s records and who communicates if the arrangement must change.
- Confirm the puppy’s current status and individual go-home readiness with Sage.
- Clarify who accompanies or transports the puppy and what service is actually being arranged.
- Request the relevant agreement, care instructions, veterinary records and itemized travel quote.
- Agree what happens if veterinary clearance, carrier acceptance, weather or another requirement prevents the planned trip.
Check Connecticut’s general rules and current emergency orders
The Connecticut State Veterinarian’s animal-movement page currently links the general import requirements revised in April 2024 and separate New World Screwworm requirements. The general dog rules address health certificates and rabies documentation by age. Ask the issuing veterinarian and Connecticut authority to confirm what applies to your puppy.
The June 30, 2026 New World Screwworm order requires an accredited Certificate of Veterinary Inspection issued within a maximum five days before entry for susceptible dogs originating in a U.S. state containing an infested zone or an adjacent surveillance zone, with additional veterinary requirements. This can be shorter than the general certificate period. Check the current state requirements for the actual origin and travel date; do not assume a standard certificate window is enough.
Also clarify which participant acts as the importer and which obligations apply to the arrangement. Connecticut maintains an Animal Importer Registration and Event Notice resource. Ask the Department of Agriculture about applicable registration, notices or follow-up requirements before finalizing the trip.
Confirm carrier acceptance and a delay plan
If using a carrier, check its current age, size, container and document requirements directly for the puppy and service.
