Before You Reserve

Clear policies help every family reserve with confidence.

Sage Puppies is a boutique program in South Jordan, Utah serving families locally and nationwide. These terms explain how applications, reservations, payments, transfers, pickup, delivery, cancellations, and refunds are handled before you commit or prepare for go-home day.

Please read this page before submitting any reservation payment. We want every family to understand timing, fit, payment expectations, and next steps before moving forward.

Important note: This page explains Sage Puppies' general program terms. Your puppy-specific reservation confirmation, invoice, application approval, or signed agreement may include additional details. If a signed agreement conflicts with this page, the signed agreement controls unless applicable law requires otherwise.

Policy Details

Detailed program policies

Use these sections to understand how Sage Puppies handles reservation payments, timing, paperwork, and next steps for approved families.

1. Application approval and placement fit

The first step is to complete the application. It helps Sage Puppies understand your household, timing, breed preferences, lifestyle, experience, delivery or pickup needs, and the type of companion you hope to bring home.

Sage Puppies reserves the right to decline an application, pause a reservation, or recommend a different timing or match if we believe the placement is not the right fit for the puppy or family. Whenever possible, deposits should be submitted only after application approval or direct written confirmation from Sage Puppies.

If Sage Puppies accepts a payment before approving an application and then declines the application without reserving a puppy or position, the payment will be returned unless another written agreement applies.

2. What a puppy deposit does

A puppy deposit shows serious intent and allows Sage Puppies to reserve a specific puppy, litter position, waitlist position, or reservation opportunity for an approved family. Once a deposit is accepted and confirmed, we may update availability, pause conversations with other families, coordinate timing, and begin next steps.

A puppy is not considered reserved by inquiry, text message, email, application submission, or verbal conversation alone. A reservation is confirmed only when Sage Puppies accepts the deposit and provides written confirmation.

3. What you should receive after placing a deposit

After your deposit is accepted, you should receive a dated receipt, invoice, or written reservation confirmation. Depending on timing and reservation type, that confirmation may include:

  • The puppy, litter, breed, or reservation position being held for you.
  • The deposit amount paid.
  • The total purchase price, if already determined.
  • Whether the deposit is refundable, transferable, or non-refundable.
  • The reservation or decision timeline, if applicable.
  • Any known delivery, pickup, transportation, or additional costs.
  • The remaining balance due date and payment instructions.

Reservation timing can depend on litter availability, puppy readiness, and placement fit.

4. Are deposits refundable?

Deposits are generally non-refundable once Sage Puppies accepts the deposit and confirms the puppy, litter position, or reservation opportunity. This is because the reservation may cause us to turn away other qualified families, remove a puppy from availability, or adjust placement planning.

A deposit may be refundable only in one of the following situations:

  • Sage Puppies cannot offer the puppy or reservation described in the written confirmation, and you do not accept an available transfer or alternative option.
  • A duplicate payment or payment processing error occurred.
  • Your written reservation agreement specifically states that the deposit is refundable under the circumstances.
  • A refund is required by applicable law.

If a refund is approved, Sage Puppies will generally refund to the original payment method when available. Card, bank, and third-party processor timelines may vary.

5. Deposit transfers

Transfer requests are reviewed case by case and are not guaranteed. If you need to change timing, puppy preference, breed preference, or litter placement, please contact Sage Puppies in writing as early as possible.

A deposit transfer is valid only when Sage Puppies confirms the transfer in writing. A transfer may depend on availability, timing, puppy fit, litter plans, and whether another approved family has already reserved the requested puppy or position.

Sage Puppies currently focuses on Havanese, Havapoo, and Cavapoo puppies. Deposits may not be transferred to a breed, pairing, or program option that Sage Puppies does not currently offer.

6. Remaining balance and paperwork

Unless your written agreement says otherwise, the deposit is applied toward the total price. The remaining balance is due according to the date and payment method listed in your invoice, reservation confirmation, or agreement.

A puppy may not leave Sage Puppies' care for pickup or delivery until the required paperwork is complete and the balance has been paid according to the agreed terms.

Final pricing, due dates, payment methods, and any included items should be confirmed in writing before go-home day.

Payment and paperwork should be clear before pickup, delivery, or go-home day.

7. Delivery, pickup, and travel costs

Many Sage Puppies families live outside Utah and choose delivery, while local families may arrange pickup by appointment in the South Jordan area. Delivery, flight nanny, ground transportation, health certificate, travel crate, or related travel costs may be separate from the purchase price unless clearly included in writing.

Delivery and travel-related costs may become non-refundable once transportation has been scheduled, paid, or committed to a third-party provider. Please review your delivery or pickup details carefully before confirming travel arrangements.

For more details, visit the Delivery & Pickup page.

8. Puppy readiness and go-home timing

Go-home timing depends on the litter, the puppy's age, development, health, readiness, travel arrangements, and any requirements listed in your written confirmation or agreement.

Sage Puppies will provide an expected go-home window before reservation when possible and will confirm final timing as the date gets closer. Travel, pickup, or delivery should not be considered final until Sage Puppies confirms the puppy is ready and all required steps are complete.

If timing changes because a puppy needs additional time, Sage Puppies will communicate next steps and any available options as clearly as possible.

Go-home timing depends on age, development, wellness readiness, and safe travel planning.

9. Health, vet care, and records

Sage Puppies focuses on thoughtful pairings, attentive care, and age-appropriate wellness before go-home. Puppy-specific records, vaccination and deworming details, wellness exam information, and any applicable written terms should be reviewed before final pickup or delivery.

Any health-related terms, guarantees, exclusions, timelines, or owner responsibilities must be confirmed in the written agreement or separate written health policy provided for that puppy. This general page does not replace puppy-specific documentation.

Families should schedule a veterinary appointment soon after go-home and follow their veterinarian's guidance for ongoing care, vaccines, parasite prevention, nutrition, grooming, and training. The American Veterinary Medical Association offers general education on wellness exams.

10. Family cancellations, missed deadlines, and communication

If a family changes their mind after a deposit has been accepted and confirmed, the deposit is generally non-refundable. This includes changes due to timing, preference, travel, household readiness, or choosing a puppy from another breeder.

If you miss a decision deadline, payment deadline, document deadline, pickup appointment, delivery confirmation, or communication deadline stated in writing, Sage Puppies may release the puppy or reservation position. In that situation, the deposit may be forfeited unless Sage Puppies confirms another arrangement in writing.

We understand that life happens. Please communicate early so we can determine whether a reasonable option is available.

11. Payment questions and disputes

If you believe there has been a payment mistake, duplicate charge, processing issue, or misunderstanding, please contact Sage Puppies before filing a dispute with your bank or payment provider. Most payment questions can be resolved faster through direct communication.

A chargeback or payment dispute may delay reservation steps, delivery scheduling, paperwork, or final placement until the matter is resolved.

12. Policy updates

Sage Puppies may update these Program Policies from time to time. The terms in effect at the time your deposit is accepted, together with your written reservation confirmation or signed agreement, will generally apply to your reservation unless otherwise required by law.

Common Questions

Program policy FAQs

These answers summarize the policy above. Your written reservation confirmation or signed puppy agreement may include puppy-specific details.

Is my puppy deposit refundable?

Deposits are generally non-refundable once accepted and confirmed. A refund may be available if Sage Puppies cannot offer the puppy or reservation described in writing, a duplicate payment occurred, your written agreement allows a refund, or applicable law requires it.

Does my deposit count toward the puppy price?

Yes. Unless your written agreement says otherwise, your deposit is applied toward the total puppy purchase price.

Can I transfer my deposit to another puppy or litter?

Transfer requests are reviewed case by case and are not guaranteed. A transfer is valid only when Sage Puppies confirms it in writing.

What happens if Sage Puppies cannot offer the agreed puppy or reservation?

If Sage Puppies cannot offer the puppy or reservation described in your written confirmation, we may offer a transfer or alternative option. If you do not accept an available option, your deposit may be refunded according to this policy and your written agreement.

Are delivery or travel costs refundable?

Delivery and travel costs may be separate from the puppy price and may become non-refundable once scheduled, paid, or committed to a third-party provider. Review your delivery or pickup details before confirming travel arrangements.

When is my puppy officially reserved?

A puppy is officially reserved only after Sage Puppies accepts the deposit and provides written confirmation. An inquiry, text message, application, email, or verbal conversation alone does not reserve a puppy.

Which policy controls if my signed agreement is different?

If a signed puppy agreement or written reservation confirmation has different terms, the signed agreement or written confirmation controls unless applicable law requires otherwise.
