Why parents matter

The puppies you meet begin with the parents we choose.

Our goal is simple: raise puppies who are beautiful, healthy, people-loving, and ready for family life.

At Sage Puppies in South Jordan, Utah, our parent dogs are selected for more than appearance. We look closely at temperament, size, coat, structure, health history, and how each dog fits the families we serve nationally and locally.

We currently focus on Havanese, Havapoo, and Cavapoo puppies. Whether your puppy is delivered nationally or picked up locally in Utah, we want you to feel confident about the parents behind your puppy.

  • Calm, affectionate temperament suited for family companionship.
  • Thoughtful breed and size pairings for predictable expectations.
  • Clear communication about each litter’s parent traits and pairing goals.
  • Ongoing attention to early development, socialization, and puppy readiness.

Pairing philosophy

How we think through each planned litter.

Every pairing starts with the future puppy family in mind. We look for parents whose traits complement each other and support puppies who can grow into steady, affectionate companions.

1

Temperament

We prioritize affectionate, people-focused parent dogs with traits that support family companionship.

2

Structure

We consider overall build, size expectations, movement, and physical balance when planning pairings.

3

Coat & size

We help families understand realistic expectations for coat type, grooming needs, and adult size range.

4

Family fit

We pair parent traits with our application process so families can be guided toward the right puppy.

Health, care, and transparency

We want families to feel confident before they reserve.

Parent dogs are part of the bigger picture: thoughtful breeding, early development, clear communication, and responsible placement.

  • We discuss parent traits and pairing goals with families during the reservation and matching process.
  • We do not expect families to choose based on photos alone; temperament and lifestyle fit matter.
  • We provide guidance on breed expectations for Havanese, Havapoo, and Cavapoo puppies.
  • We welcome thoughtful questions from applicants about parent dogs, litters, timing, pickup, and delivery.

Parent dog FAQ

Questions families often ask.

Have a specific question about a planned pairing? Send us a message or include it in your application.

Can I learn about the parents before reserving a puppy?
Yes. We are happy to explain the parent dogs, the goals for the pairing, expected temperament, size range, coat expectations, and what we are seeing as the puppies grow.
Do parent traits help predict a puppy’s temperament?
Parent temperament is an important part of the picture, but each puppy is still an individual. We consider parent traits, early development, litter observations, and your application when helping guide puppy placement.
Which breeds does Sage Puppies raise?
Sage Puppies focuses on Havanese, Havapoo, and Cavapoo puppies. These breeds fit our boutique program because they are small companion dogs with strong family appeal.
Can I meet the parents in person?
Availability depends on the timing of the litter, the parent dogs involved, and what is best for the dogs and puppies. We can share photos, details, and pairing information with approved families.
How do I ask about a specific parent or litter?
Start with the puppy application or contact form. Tell us which breed or planned litter you are interested in, and we will help you understand the parents, timing, and next steps.
