Check current puppies before planning a homecoming

Write down what a normal weekday requires

For a Louisville apartment with shared hallways, map the trip from the sleeping area to a permitted potty spot, including doors, stairs or an elevator. For a Lexington house, inspect gates and gaps rather than assuming the yard is puppy-ready. On a rural property, choose a supervised area separated from livestock, equipment and vehicles. These are household examples; your address alone cannot predict a puppy’s fit.

List who provides daytime care, how visitors and children will interact, where the puppy can rest, and what help you have when work runs late. Include veterinary care, grooming, supplies and an emergency reserve in your ongoing budget. Describe that routine when you speak with Cassie.

Compare three breed paths, then the individual

• Havanese: review the breed guide and ask how the particular puppy responds to handling, company and household activity.
• Havapoo: discuss the puppy’s actual coat, parents and observed routine rather than relying on a mixed-breed label.
• Cavapoo: check current availability separately and ask about the individual puppy’s needs and your family’s schedule.

Breed descriptions provide context. They cannot promise a particular adult size, coat, allergy response or temperament. Compare the actual puppy and supporting records, and discuss any health or behaviour concerns with an appropriate professional.

Review evidence before a reservation

Confirm who is responsible for the puppy and where it is being raised. Keep the puppy’s care record, parent screening results and sale agreement separate: they answer different questions. Plan Kentucky entry from the actual starting state

A Utah-origin puppy is an interstate arrival. Kentucky’s entry regulation, Section 10 generally requires a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) for dogs entering the state; it includes a service-dog exception. Imported dogs over four months must have rabies vaccination by a licensed veterinarian.

The CVI regulation generally gives the certificate a 30-day validity after inspection and issuance and specifies identity, origin, destination and veterinary information. Have an accredited veterinarian check the puppy’s age, actual journey and current KDA movement updates, including any temporary requirements. Agree on who obtains the documents and handles each stage; travel availability, cost and timing need their own confirmation.

Check your county and your property

Local rules need a separate check. Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control lists annual dog licences starting at six months and rabies vaccination at four months in Fayette County. Put the applicable dates on your calendar. Those local ages are not a summary of every Kentucky county’s requirements.

For another address, use the local animal-control office’s current guidance. A landlord or association may also have pet limits, permissions or fees. Confirm those terms and the actual potty route before reserving.
