8 Checks Before Choosing a Puppy in Kansas

Choosing a puppy in Kansas starts with your daily routine, the seller’s records and a realistic homecoming plan. These eight checks help you compare the actual puppy and the written terms before making a commitment.

Sage Puppies is Cassie Milar’s program in South Jordan, Utah, offering Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo puppies. Review Our Program and discuss your Kansas household with Cassie before deciding whether a particular puppy fits.

Sage’s general puppy purchase range is $3,500–$4,500. Confirm the puppy’s exact price with Cassie; guardian arrangements and travel costs are separate. Review Pricing & Reservation and How It Works before committing.

Check current puppies first

The cards below use Sage’s current availability listings. The Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo pages provide breed information and their current puppy listings. A breed without an available puppy may still have a guide; confirm the exact puppy’s status with Cassie before planning dates.

1. Confirm the actual seller, town and state

Get the seller’s name, business identity and physical location, then check that the person you speak with is connected to the puppy. Kansas City searches can surface Kansas and Missouri sellers. Confirm both the puppy’s location and your destination state; a metro name does not establish which state’s rules apply.

2. Separate a current puppy from a future possibility

Ask for the puppy’s birth date, current status and a recent update. An available puppy, a reserved puppy and a hoped-for future litter represent different decisions. Use the Kansas availability and homecoming guide to clarify status, household readiness and who will confirm any change.

3. Compare the puppy with your real day

Describe work and school hours, children, resident pets, stairs and outdoor access. In a shared building, plan the supervised trip to a toileting area. On acreage, plan secure boundaries and separation from vehicles or livestock. Include grooming time and expense. The Kansas temperament guide gives questions about ordinary puppy behaviour and settling needs.

4. Request specific care and parent records

Ask which veterinary records will accompany the puppy, what care has actually been given and which parent screening results can be reviewed. A puppy examination and a parent health result answer different questions. Have your veterinarian explain unfamiliar records and the follow-up care your puppy needs. A broad “health tested” label leaves those details unresolved.

5. Check the applicable Kansas licence category

For a Kansas seller, use the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s licensing information to identify the applicable facility category and ask where to verify current licence and inspection information. The seller’s circumstances determine the category. A licence check is one part of your research; still review the individual puppy, care records and purchase terms.

6. Read the price and agreement together

Review Pricing & Reservation and How It Works for Sage’s process. Ask about the exact puppy price, any separate travel cost, reservation conditions, what happens if plans change and the support offered after arrival. Resolve these points in writing before committing to a puppy or journey.

7. Check documents for an interstate arrival

The Kansas Department of Agriculture’s current entry guidance requires dogs arriving from another state to have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) signed by an accredited veterinarian and issued within 30 days before movement. Kansas does not accept APHIS Form 7001 as an interstate CVI. Its guidance says dogs over three months need proof of current rabies vaccination, including the vaccination date, manufacturer and serial number.

The agency also lists additional requirements for animals originating from a New World screwworm-infested zone. Have the veterinary team check the puppy’s actual origin, age, travel date, accepted certificate format and any current movement restrictions. Agree on the handover with Cassie after those details are resolved.

8. Prepare your household and weather plan

The National Weather Service’s Kansas City regional guidance advises against assuming public buildings are storm shelters. Confirm your own home’s plan or ask your property manager, and check whether pets are accepted if you would use another shelter. Practise moving calmly with a carrier and leash; keep food, water, needed medicines and records ready. If shelter requires driving, plan ahead of the storm.

Before arrival, assign care during work, school or farm chores; prepare a secure toileting area and arrange veterinary follow-up. Use your actual county forecast when coordinating the journey. A delayed date is easier to handle when everyone knows who will communicate changes.

Start with current puppies, review the individual puppy with Cassie, then begin your application. Keep the seller, puppy, paperwork and household plan connected throughout the decision.
