Choosing a Puppy for Your San Antonio Home

A San Antonio puppy plan needs more than a preferred breed. Start with permission at your actual address, a clear microchip-record handoff, an outdoor routine suitable for a young puppy, and someone who can provide daily care and transport. Those decisions help you judge an individual puppy’s fit before making travel plans.

Sage Puppies is Cassie Milar’s program in South Jordan, Utah, offering Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo. Begin with Available Puppies and Pricing & Reservation. General puppy purchase pricing is $3,500–$4,500; review each actual profile and confirm the current opportunity directly. Transportation, ongoing care and guardian arrangements are separate.

Check the address and outdoor ID requirements

Confirm whether your home is inside San Antonio city limits. A San Antonio mailing address alone should not replace that check. Review your lease, HOA or other property rules for pet permissions and restrictions, including any rules that affect an expected adult dog.

The city’s microchipping guidance says resident dogs, cats and ferrets must have registered microchips. Dogs must also wear a tag showing the registered chip number while outdoors. The page lists exemptions, including certain short-term or new residents and a veterinary medical exemption. Ask Animal Care Services about the requirements for your actual address, timing and circumstances.

Make the microchip handoff specific

San Antonio’s registration instructions distinguish manufacturer registration from registering with the city: the chip record belongs with the microchip manufacturer, rather than a separate City or ACS registration. It should identify the current owner, address, phone number if available, and the pet.

Before a placement, ask what records actually exist for that individual puppy. If a chip is present, confirm its number, manufacturer and ownership-transfer steps. Do not assume a particular puppy already has a chip or uses a particular registry. Both former and new owners are responsible for updating ownership information under the city’s guidance.

Keep the registry instructions with your puppy’s records and prepare the outdoor number tag as applicable. ACS recommends checking the information each year and updating it when your address or contact details change. A chip that points to an old household is an avoidable gap in a carefully planned handoff.

Plan the weeks before dog-park visits

A nearby dog park does not automatically solve a young puppy’s outdoor needs. San Antonio’s dog-park rules require dogs to be at least four months old and fully vaccinated. These are entry conditions, not individual veterinary clearance.

The city also requires supervision, limits each handler to two dogs, asks handlers to keep a leash ready and clean up waste, and says to leave food, treats and toys at home. Dogs in heat should stay home. Read the current rules and signs before any visit.

Discuss a suitable potty and social-learning routine with your veterinarian before arrival. Identify the permitted space you can actually reach from your door, including building exits or shared areas. Ask which lower-contact activities fit the puppy’s age and vaccine plan. Give that early routine its own plan instead of depending on future dog-park access.

Work out carrier travel and caregiver cover

For ordinary pets, VIA’s code of conduct requires an enclosed pet carrier on its buses and other vehicles. Service-animal provisions are separate. Confirm any questions about your intended trip and carrier with VIA before relying on it.

Practice comfortable carrier handling at home and identify a separate ride if the planned trip cannot work. Think through getting from the front door to the stop, carrying supplies and handling an unexpected delay. Confirm any puppy pickup or delivery arrangement directly with Sage before booking travel; a public-transit pet rule does not establish a puppy delivery route.

Name the adult who will cover feeding, potty breaks, company and appointments during the longest workday. Agree on a backup for illness or changed hours. Make sure both people can follow the same instructions and reach the puppy’s records.

Compare three breeds through the individual puppy

Explore Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo with your real routine in mind. Ask Cassie about the individual puppy’s observed behavior, parent information, expected adult range and coat-care needs. Discuss grooming handling, comfortable carrier use, company and how you will build a manageable daily routine.

A breed name cannot guarantee adult size, temperament, coat maintenance or quiet settling in a shared building. Use the existing Texas buyer guide for state and homecoming context, and the Texas breed-fit comparison for the broader three-breed decision.

Bring a household plan to the conversation

Before applying, be ready to explain:

  • Your address context and property permission.
  • The actual chip and record questions that need answers.
  • Your permitted early outdoor routine and veterinary follow-up plan.
  • Who provides daily care, transport and backup cover.
  • The individual puppy questions that matter to your household.
