If your Sacramento puppy plans include Discovery Park or the American River Parkway, start with the exact place you expect to use. A corridor name, a park listing and permission for a particular activity answer different questions. Your everyday care plan should still work when an outing needs to change.
Sage Puppies is Cassie Milar’s Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo program in South Jordan, Utah. This guide helps Sacramento households plan local routines while considering an individual puppy. For the broader purchase decision, use our California puppy buyer guide.
Name the destination and its manager
The Sacramento County American River Parkway directory lists separate destinations, including Discovery Park. Use it to identify the place you mean, then check that destination’s managing agency and rules.
“The parkway” is too broad an entry in a household plan. A useful note names the park or managed area, the entrance or portion you intend to visit, and what you hope to do there. Permission for one facility or activity does not establish permission elsewhere along the corridor.
Before relying on a place for regular care, identify the official page that answers your actual question: may a dog accompany you in that area, under what conditions, and are there current access notices?
Separate County park rules from City off-leash areas
Sacramento County’s Dogs in County Parks guidance requires leashes outside designated off-leash areas and asks visitors to clean up after their pets. Check the specific destination rather than extending an exception to the surrounding park.
The City of Sacramento’s dog-park page lists Sutter’s Landing. Its rules limit off-leash use to designated fenced areas. A City-listed fenced dog area and a County-managed park are different planning choices.
A listed facility still needs a current access check. Permission also does not establish whether an outing suits your puppy. Discuss the individual puppy’s outdoor readiness with your veterinarian before choosing activities.
Read a status notice for its place, date and scope
Use Sacramento County Park Status Updates when planning a County destination. Read the notice itself, including its dates and the part of the facility affected. A trail notice may answer a different question from an entrance or park notice.
When we reviewed the page on October 24, 2026, it included notices with different date formats, including expired or yearless wording. Check for a current official update if a notice’s timing or meaning is unclear. Choose another confirmed option while access remains uncertain.
Keep four details together:
- Exact place: the named facility and intended entrance or area.
- Manager and activity: whose rules apply and what you plan to do.
- Notice checked: the official source, its stated dates and when you checked it.
- Alternative: who will care for the puppy and where ordinary care can happen if the outing changes.
These checks establish what information you have. They do not establish water conditions, permission to swim or suitability for an individual dog.
Make a cancelled outing an ordinary day
For example, a household might plan an outing at Discovery Park, then find a notice it cannot confidently match to the intended date or area. An adult who has already agreed to provide care can stay with the puppy at home and follow its usual care plan while the household seeks clarification.
Work out that alternative before the trip. Name the adult who will be available, confirm access to the home and agree on responsibilities. A hoped-for river outing should not be the only arrangement supporting daily care.
This is a household-planning example. The appropriate routine depends on the puppy, your home and advice from the professionals involved in its care.
Bring your normal week into the puppy conversation
Compare an individual puppy with the care your household can provide on an ordinary weekday. Who is available during the day? Who takes over when plans change? What questions about care, grooming and outings do you need answered before making a commitment?
Explore the existing California guides for Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo puppies, then ask Sage about the actual puppy you are considering. A breed name alone cannot answer those individual questions.
Sage’s general puppy purchase range is $3,500–$4,500; check the current individual listing and pricing and reservation information for the applicable details. Review how the process works and the application before reserving or arranging travel.
Review current puppies and bring your household-care questions to Sage, including how your Sacramento routine will work when a planned outing changes.
