# Preparing for a Puppy in Your Delaware Home

Buy the supplies that support your puppy’s actual care instructions, then set them up where care will happen. For a Delaware household using both a year-round home and a seasonal address, that means planning the handover as well as the shopping list. Start with food, safe rest, identification, supervised toileting and records; add extras after you know the puppy’s needs.

Sage Puppies is Cassie Milar’s South Jordan, Utah program for Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo puppies. Confirm the specific puppy’s current routine and any items included at handoff before buying supplies or booking travel.

Sage’s general puppy purchase range is **$3,500–$4,500**. Exact puppy prices, guardian arrangements and travel costs are separate. Review [Pricing & Reservation](https://sagepuppies.com/pricing-reservation/)
 and [How It Works](https://sagepuppies.com/our-program/how-it-works/)
 before committing.

## Confirm food and care instructions before shopping

Ask for the exact food and formula, how it is measured, the current feeding routine and any individual care instructions. Have usable food and water bowls and the appropriate measuring tool ready. Discuss any planned diet change with your veterinarian instead of applying a generic transition calendar.

Keep the instructions with the supplies so every caregiver follows the same plan. Check what will arrive with the puppy and what you need to obtain yourself. If you use two homes, agree who checks the food supply before each move and who replenishes it.

## Set up a resting space at every address

- Choose a secure, quiet resting area away from busy doors. Select a crate or pen for the puppy’s actual size and needs, following its manufacturer’s instructions and professional guidance.
- Check gates, cords, small objects, cleaning products and access to stairs. Arrange supervision where children and other animals use the same space.
- Have washable bedding and cleanup supplies ready. Decide where soiled items will go and keep products out of the puppy’s reach.
- Provide suitable toys with adult supervision; remove damaged items and ask for help choosing items for the puppy’s actual chewing and handling needs.

## Fit travel and walking equipment to the individual puppy

Choose equipment based on the puppy’s measurements and the manufacturer’s instructions. A small-breed label does not establish an exact carrier or crate size. For car travel, confirm the intended restraint and installation with the manufacturer; for another carrier service, check its current acceptance and container rules directly.

Prepare identification and correctly fitted walking gear before handoff, then ask Sage about familiar handling and travel routines. The illustration above is a planning scene, not a product test or an installation instruction. Ask your veterinarian about the puppy’s individual travel and exposure needs.

## Make the potty route work outside holiday season

Rehearse the actual route at each home. A ground-floor yard, a shared building entrance and a rental near the shore require different practical arrangements. Confirm permission, secure exits, lighting and the adult responsible for each trip. Prepare a backup for a route that becomes unsafe or unavailable.

Rehoboth Beach’s [official Beach & Boardwalk Rules](https://www.rehobothbeachde.gov/164/Beach-Boardwalk-Rules)
currently allow leashed dogs September 16–May 14 when lifeguards are not present and prohibit them May 15–September 15. Recheck the page before visiting and consult the exact authority for another town or park. Permission to visit does not establish that a location is suitable for a young puppy; discuss exposures with your veterinarian.

## Pack one care kit and plan what stays at each home

A shared care kit can hold current instructions, veterinary and travel records, identification information, food-measuring supplies and the items you actually use. Decide which everyday basics need to remain at each address and which will travel with the puppy. A second setup helps only when someone checks that it is ready.

Ask a groomer or veterinarian which brush, comb and handling approach suit the puppy’s actual coat. Keep cleanup towels and bags accessible. Choose tools from the puppy’s needs and professional guidance; buying a complete set at once is unnecessary.

The [Delaware Office of Animal Welfare’s disaster-preparedness resource](https://animalservices.delaware.gov/detail/24)
emphasizes including pets in emergency plans. Identify a backup caregiver and a permitted alternative place to stay, and make sure the necessary supplies and records can leave with the household.

## Finish the household plan before confirming travel

 and the [Havanese](https://sagepuppies.com/breeds/havanese/)
, [Havapoo](https://sagepuppies.com/breeds/havapoo/)

guides for individual puppy questions. Include both addresses, pet permission and care coverage in [your application](https://sagepuppies.com/application/)
. The [seven homecoming checks](https://sagepuppies.com/7-things-to-check-before-bringing-home-a-delaware-puppy/)
help you confirm the handoff, current entry requirements and veterinary follow-up.
