# Preparing for Puppy Homecoming in Illinois

Prepare the place where your puppy will rest, the route for potty breaks and the adults responsible for care before homecoming. Illinois winter conditions and shared building access can change an ordinary day, so give each part of the plan a workable backup.

Sage Puppies is Cassie Milar’s South Jordan, Utah program for Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo puppies. A Sage pickup is arranged in Utah; delivery details are confirmed for the actual puppy and destination. Start with [the Illinois buyer guide](https://sagepuppies.com/puppies-for-sale-in-illinois-a-buyers-guide/)
if you are still choosing a match.

Sage’s general puppy purchase range is **$3,500–$4,500**. Each listing gives the puppy’s exact price; guardian arrangements and travel costs are separate. Review [Pricing & Reservation](https://sagepuppies.com/pricing-reservation/)
 and [How It Works](https://sagepuppies.com/our-program/how-it-works/)
 before committing.

## Confirm the actual handoff and receiving adult

Ask who will hand over the puppy, where and when the meeting is proposed, and who takes responsibility during each travel segment. Name the adult receiving the puppy and the person covering care if that adult’s work or journey changes. Confirm the plan before buying tickets or supplies for a particular transport method.

Ask what Sage will provide for this puppy and what you must bring yourself. Confirm the current food, feeding and water instructions, records and contact for questions. A checklist is a preparation aid; it does not establish that every item is included in the puppy price.

## Pack for the puppy and the confirmed journey

- A carrier or other transport equipment suitable for the actual puppy and accepted by the confirmed carrier or transport provider.
- The agreed food, water and feeding plan, with containers needed for the journey.
- Cleanup supplies, suitable bedding or towels and containment items discussed for the individual puppy.
- The documents needed for the trip, your veterinary contact and the responsible adults’ contact details.

Confirm carrier and equipment requirements with the relevant provider and ask your veterinarian about individual care during travel. Do not infer suitability from a product photograph or another family’s packing list. The generated scene above illustrates a conversation; it does not demonstrate tested gear or a Sage handoff.

## Prepare the route outside and the quiet indoor space

For a Chicago-area apartment or condo, walk the permitted potty route, including elevators, stairs and shared doors. Check building rules and what you will do if the usual route is temporarily unavailable. Discuss appropriate exposure for the puppy’s age and health with your veterinarian before using shared dog areas.

For a suburban or other home with a yard, check gates and places where a puppy could escape or encounter hazards. Plan adult supervision rather than expecting the yard to provide care by itself. Decide which door everyone uses and where the puppy waits while an adult prepares to go out.

Set up a comfortable resting place away from busy foot traffic and a supervised indoor play area. Agree on how children and visitors interact and when the resting space is left quiet. Assign the adults covering meals, potty breaks, gentle handling and companionship.

## Build an individual winter routine

[Illinois Extension’s veterinary winter guidance](https://extension.illinois.edu/news-releases/keep-dogs-safe-winter)
explains that time outdoors depends on the individual dog and conditions. Ask your puppy’s veterinarian about cold exposure and appropriate activity. Keep an indoor alternative ready when the outdoor plan needs to change; do not rely on a universal temperature or time limit.

[University of Illinois veterinary guidance](https://vetmed.illinois.edu/pet-health-columns/pets-cold-weather-needs/)
notes that sidewalk salt and deicers can irritate paws and recommends wiping them with warm water after outings. Keep suitable cleanup supplies near the entrance and discuss any concerns or paw protection with your veterinarian. This is care planning, not a recommendation for a particular balm, boot or medicine.

Make sure another adult knows the routine and how to access supplies and records. If a winter journey is delayed, confirm who receives the puppy and how care will continue. Recheck the actual trip and conditions close to departure instead of treating a proposed date as fixed.

## Separate entry paperwork from household preparation

Use [the eight-record guide](https://sagepuppies.com/8-illinois-puppy-sale-documents-every-buyer-should-check/)
to review identity, veterinary information, written terms and actual entry documents. Illinois’s [current dog-entry page](https://agr.illinois.gov/animals/animalhealth/animal-import.html)
 and [animal-health alerts](https://agr.illinois.gov/animals/animalhealth/alerts-and-important-animal-health-information.html)
should be checked with the issuing veterinarian for your date, origin and arrangement. Carrier acceptance is another check; preparation alone does not establish travel eligibility.

Review [Sage’s pickup and delivery information](https://sagepuppies.com/delivery-pickup/)
 and [the program](https://sagepuppies.com/our-program/)
. Once your care plan and the proposed match fit, [apply with your timing and preferences](https://sagepuppies.com/application/)
or [ask about an unresolved handoff detail](https://sagepuppies.com/contact/)
.
