# Bringing a Puppy Home from Utah to Arizona

Bringing a puppy from South Jordan, Utah to Arizona takes a plan for the actual puppy, the whole journey and the first day at home. Confirm readiness, paperwork, the handoff and who provides care before booking travel. Sage Puppies is Cassie Milar’s Utah-based Havanese, Havapoo and Cavapoo program.

Use the [Arizona buyer guide](https://sagepuppies.com/puppies-for-sale-in-arizona-a-complete-buyers-guide/)
first if you are still deciding which puppy fits your household. The checklist below covers the homecoming after those questions have been discussed.

## Confirm the arrangement before booking

Read [Delivery & Pickup](https://sagepuppies.com/delivery-pickup/)
and confirm the option actually available for your puppy, destination and date. An arranged Utah pickup means planning the return journey too. Discuss any coordinated delivery directly rather than assuming a recurring Arizona route or local facility.

- Confirm the puppy’s identity and readiness with Sage.
- Record the agreed handoff location, time and contact method.
- Name the adult accompanying the puppy and the adult receiving it.
- Separate the puppy price from travel costs and review the written terms.
- Agree on how to communicate a delay, changed weather or a postponed arrangement.

## Check Arizona entry documents with the issuing veterinarian

The Arizona Department of Agriculture’s dogs-and-cats entry sheet, dated March 2025, calls for a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection issued by an accredited veterinarian. It states a 30-day validity period and signature requirements, with no entry permit number required under that guidance. It also calls for current rabies vaccination documented on the CVI for animals 12 weeks and older.

Have the issuing veterinarian confirm the rules that apply to the puppy’s age, origin and actual entry date. A young puppy’s rabies timing does not remove the need to check travel documentation. Airline requirements must also be confirmed separately. Start with the [State Veterinarian’s Office entry-requirements index](https://agriculture.az.gov/divisions/animal-services/state-veterinarians-office)
and its Cats & Dogs document.

Keep four kinds of information distinct:

- **Travel CVI:** the document used for the applicable movement requirements.
- **Puppy-care record:** the puppy’s examination, vaccinations, parasite care and other documented veterinary history.
- **Parent screening:** results relating to the puppy’s parents, reviewed through [Sage’s health-testing information](https://sagepuppies.com/about/health-testing/) and the actual records.
- **Purchase agreement:** the written terms, price, responsibilities and relevant [health guarantee](https://sagepuppies.com/health-guarantee/) .

## Plan for the route and the waiting time

Check [Arizona 511](https://www.az511.gov/)
for current road information before departure and again when conditions change. For a route through higher-elevation areas, use [ADOT’s winter preparation guidance](https://azdot.gov/about/transportation-safety/severe-weather/know-snow-and-ice)
. Conditions at the destination alone do not describe every part of a Utah-to-Arizona journey.

Allow flexibility for the care the actual puppy needs. Confirm feeding, water, rest and any veterinary travel instructions with Sage and the veterinarian; do not apply a single break schedule or meal restriction to every puppy. Never leave the puppy in a parked vehicle while you handle an errand or wait.

If flying, check the carrier’s current pet rules, reservation availability and required carrier dimensions before purchasing tickets. Confirm every leg of the arrangement, including the transfer from the arrival point to your home. A general delivery page does not establish approval for a particular flight.

## Pack for care, cleanup and records

- A suitable secured carrier or agreed restraint setup, checked for the puppy and travel method.
- The current food and care instructions, water and a usable bowl.
- Washable bedding, cleanup supplies, waste bags and spare supplies for a delay.
- Appropriately fitted handling equipment for the agreed handoff and supervised stops.
- Accessible copies of the records, agreement and relevant contact details.

Keep essential care items and documents where the accompanying adult can reach them. Before leaving the handoff, confirm which items were supplied and what you still need for the journey. Ask questions about unclear instructions while the responsible person is available.

## Have the Arizona home ready before arrival

Set up a manageable indoor resting area, a suitable potty route and adult care coverage. Use the [Arizona weather preparation guide](https://sagepuppies.com/choosing-a-heat-tolerant-puppy-breed-for-arizona-summers/)
to check cooling, exposed surfaces, storm gates and backup arrangements at your address.

Share the current care instructions with everyone helping. Contact your chosen veterinary clinic about the puppy’s records, follow-up and any concerns rather than assuming a universal appointment deadline. Leave room for quiet rest and supervised introductions instead of a busy arrival-day itinerary.

Review [Pricing & Reservation](https://sagepuppies.com/pricing-reservation/)
 and [How It Works](https://sagepuppies.com/our-program/how-it-works/)
, then include your Arizona destination and travel questions in the [puppy application](https://sagepuppies.com/application/)
. Entry and travel references were reviewed October 13, 2026; the issuing veterinarian and travel provider should reconfirm applicable requirements for the actual journey.
